Funding

TB-CAPT is a research project funded by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and will receive nearly €6 million over the duration of five years, starting from September 1, 2019.

EDCTP was established in 2003 and is a public-public partnership between countries in Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, and the European Union. The programme is executed through partnerships between European and African institutions and researchers in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry and like-minded organisations. It aims to support collaborative research and capacity development activities that accelerate the clinical development of new or improved interventions to prevent or treat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other poverty-related infectious diseases, including neglected infectious diseases and emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases, prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa.

EDCTP’s second programme (2014-2024) is implemented as part of the 8th European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020, and governed by the participating African and European countries. It supports all clinical trial phases (I-IV) including health services optimisation research. Research and regulatory capacity development remain integrated in the research funding strategy in order to strengthen the conditions for conducting clinical research in sub-Saharan Africa.
